Do you want to outshine your first interview? Have you failed many times during a one-to-one Interview? Do you think it’s difficult to impress the interviewer, just in front of you?
From the moment you enter the workplace to your last day at work, you’re viewed. Ensure that how you’re moving, signalling, and carrying on is projecting the picture you need. The higher up the chain of command you go, the more engaged your activities, the more contained your signals and the greater position you’re relied upon to project. You never see the manager running a few doors down. You never see the senior accomplice fluttering his hands. You never see the Prime Minister sitting with his back to the entryway.
Going for a meeting includes being on the show. Interviewers start making evaluations from the moment they first see you. From top to toe, how you groom, dress, and carry yourself conveys signals about what your identity is and the message you need to pass on. Add to those fixings your non-verbal communication, your habits, and your disposition, and in under seven seconds, the impression you make is set.
Here are the tips which will make the interviewer’s head turn out, and probably you will be landing the dream job.
- Just before the start– Remind yourself of the purpose of the interview, practice breathing exercises, unclog your mind, speech, and body language, and get ready physically, psychologically, and vocally.
- Positive body language– Your body language tells a lot about you. You need to know the difference between positive and negative body language. Be confident with your body language. Avoid cluttering things unnecessarily. Do not slouch or shake your legs as these things show nervousness. It’s a big NO! NO! Lean forward a little bit, shoulders should be straight, chin up, and conquer the interview with your confidence.
- Eye contact– Maintain eye contact throughout the interview (but do not stare). It gives a signal that you are attentive and engaged in the conversation. It is also a symbol of confidence.
- Be a good listener– Be an active listener. Avoid interrupting the interviewer, understand the question and answer only after understanding the question properly.
- Hand gestures- The way you use your hands while talking, tells a lot about you. Use subtle hand gestures like clasping palms, and touching fingertips to portray openness and honesty.
- Make mirror images– Quickly observe the positive body language of the interviewer and mirror those non-verbal communicational signals to come in the good books.
- Leave the mark– Smile, shake hands with the interviewer, set your chair, straighten your shoulders, and move out of the room having body language full of confidence.
Keep in mind: Do not touch your face and hair in a repeated never-ending pattern, and never make body movements like fidgeting or jiggle. Don’t fumble in between the conversation.
Keep these tips in mind, prepare well for your interview and have good knowledge about the company and you will certainly do good.
